AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A SOUTH AFRICAN EXPATRIATE WHO REPRESENTS AN INTELLIGENT, ETHICALLY SENSITIVE COUNTERCULTURE THAT WANTS A BROADER BASE OF PLURALISTIC CONSENSUS OF WHAT PATRIOTISM IS.
Abstract
TREASON IS VIEWED AS BETRAYAL SIMPLY FOR THE SAKE OF BETRAYAL, THUS GROWING FROM A PURE AND DESTRUCTIVE HOSTILITY. THE PRESS FOR SOCIAL AND POLITICAL CHANGE THAT IS DEEMED RATIONAL, JUST, AND MORAL BY ITS ADVOCATES IS NOT CONSIDERED TO FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY. THE AUTHOR ARGUES FOR A POLITICAL AND SOCIAL STRUCTURE THAT PROVIDES FOR A MULTIPLICITY OF IDEOLOGICAL, ETHNIC, RACIAL, AND SUBCULTURAL INPUTS FOR THE MOLDING OF THE NATIONAL LIFE. IT IS CONSIDERED THAT IN MANY COUNTRIES TREASON IS DEFINED BY NARROW POWER GROUPS WHO SEEK TO PRESERVE A STATUS QUO THAT SERVES THEIR INTERESTS.
