STUDY DEFINING THE AVERAGE BURGLARY OFFENDER, ONE OF SIX OFFENSE PROFILES ON SELECTED OFFENSES FROM DATA COLLECTED ON 3986 INCOMING INMATES DURING THE PERIOD OF OCTOBER 1972 TO OCTOBER 1974.
Abstract
THE DATA COLLECTION INSTRUMENT USED WAS THE FLORIDA PAROLE AND PROBATION COMMISSION'S PAROLE INFORMATION AND PREDICTION FORM. A CHART FOR EACH OF THE 13 VARIABLES USED IN THE PROFILE IS INCLUDED. BASED ON A SUBPOPULATION OF 814, THE AVERAGE BURGLARY OFFENDER HAS THE FOLLOWING PROFILE: HE IS WHITE MALE (57% OR 460); WITH SOME HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION (53% OR 423); USES ALCOHOL MODERATELY (54% OR 438); HAS NO HISTORY OR KNOWN USE OF DRUGS (47% OR 382); WAS ARRESTED SEVEN (7) OR MORE TIMES (33% OR 272); HAS NO PRIOR PRISON COMMITMENTS (66% OR 533); HAS NO PRIOR MISDEMEANOR CONVICTIONS (55% OR 450); HAS HAD NO PRIOR FELONY CONVICTIONS (60% OR 489); WAS NOT COMMITTED AS A JUVENILE (66% OR 531); HAS NEVER ESCAPED (91% OR 737); HAS NEVER BEEN ON PROBATION (75% OR 611) OR PAROLE (86% OR 697); AND HAS NEVER VIOLATED PAROLE (91% OR 734).
