Abstract
THE AUTHOR FOCUSES ON THE STRATEGIC ENVIRONMENT OF THE FEDERAL PROSECUTOR. HE DISCUSSES THE FORMAL DUTIES AND ORGANIZATION OF THE OFFICE, THE METHOD OF APPOINTMENT, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, AND INTERACTION WITH 'SIGNIFICANT OTHERS' IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS. HIS ANALYSIS OF THE STRATEGIC ENVIRONMENT WHICH GREATLY EFFECTS THE PROSECUTOR'S CHARGING DECISION BEGINS WITH A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FEDERAL PROSECUTOR, THE ASSISTANT UNITED STATES ATTORNEY. THE INTERACTION OF THE PROSECUTOR WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, JUDGES, INVESTIGATIVE AGENTS, AND OTHERS IS CONSIDERED IN DETAIL.
