This article reports on a study of children in foster care in a large city, and examines their adjustment process, family development, and parental background.
Abstract
This paper delineates the 'Children in Crisis' Project, a research program in Sweden that studies 85 children in foster care in a large city. The program, based on a previous study conducted by Fanshel and Shinn of children in New York, confirmed the findings of the Fanshel study. Findings are presented concerning the families' backgrounds, reactions to placement, and development during the development period. The author concludes that in social work with socially deprived families, it is necessary to seek new ways to learn about their living conditions. Notes. (Author abstract modified)
