DISCUSSION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ETHNIC SELF-HELP GROUPS AND THE BROADER SOCIAL MOVEMENTS OF WHICH THEY ARE A PART.
Abstract
THE WAYS IN WHICH SUCH OFFENDER GROUPS CAN CONTRIBUTE TO ACHIEVING THE GOALS OF CORRECTION ARE DESCRIBED. THE POTENTIAL OF THESE SELF-HELP GROUPS ARE EVALUATED AND SPECIFIC SUGGESTIONS ARE MADE ON THEIR STRUCTURE. EXAMINED IS THE EFFECT THESE GROUPS CAN HAVE ON PRISON REVOLUTIONAIRES, OUTSIDE AGITATORS WHO RECRUIT MEMBERS FROM PRISON, TREATMENT EFFORTS, AND STAFF BACKLASH. ALSO DISCUSSED IS THE QUESTION OF ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT FOR PRISON ETHNIC SELF-HELP GROUPS.
