AN EXAMINATION OF COMMON PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PERSONALITY TRAITS OF POLICEMEN AND OF THE RELATIONSHIP OF THOSE TRAITS TO THE STRESSES OF POLICE WORK.
Abstract
STRESSES ARE CONSIDERED IN TWO CATEGORIES: STRESS DUE TO THE NATURE OF POLICE WORK, AND STRESS AS A RESULT OF THE NATURE OF THE QUASI-MILITARY POLICE ORGANIZATION. THE TYPE OF POLICE APPLICANT OFTEN SOUGHT AFTER BY POLICE DEPARTMENTS IS ALSO DISCUSSED. OBSERVATIONS ARE DRAWN LARGELY FROM THE AUTHOR'S EXPERIENCE AS A POLICEMAN AND POLICE PSYCHIATRIC CONSULTANT.
