STUDY ON THE MOTIVATION OF THE GAMBLER AND THE PARTICULAR GEOGRAPHICAL AND CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH GAMBLING MUST OPERATE TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
Abstract
THIS OVERVIEW OF GAMBLING INCLUDES AN EXAMINATION OF NEVADA GAMING IN LAS VEGAS, RENO AND LAKE TAHOE. CERTAIN ASSUMPTIONS ARE MADE CONCERNING AN INDIVIDUAL'S GAMBLING MOTIVATIONS RELATIVE TO HIS INCOME AND THE CASINO GAMES HE PLAYS. THESE MOTIVES ARE THEN VIEWED IN GENERAL FOR EACH OF THE GAMING REGIONS CONSIDERED. PREDICTIONS AND EXPLANATIONS OF AGGREGATED ECONOMIC RELATIONSHIPS ARE THEN MADE FROM THE BEHAVIORAL MODEL. THE AUTHOR MAKES SOME OBSERVATIONS ON LEGALIZED GAMBLING, INCLUDING BETTING ON SPORTS AND THE VARIOUS STATE LOTTERIES. THE FEASIBILITY OF OPERATING LEGALIZED CASINO GAMBLING IN STATES OTHER THAN NEVADA IS DISCUSSED, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS OF NEVADA GAMING. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
