DISCUSSES THE EFFECTS OF VARIOUS DRUGS, VARIOUS TYPES OF USERS AND THE VARIED PATTERNS OF USE, AND THE AMBIGUITIES OF LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT RELATIVE TO DRUGS, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO MARIJUANA.
Abstract
THE DEFINITIONS OF HABITUATION, DEPENDENCE, TOLERANCE, AND ADDICTION ARE DELINEATED. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MARIJUANA, LSD, MESCALINE, SPEED, AND HEROIN ARE DISCUSSED, ALONG WITH THEIR EFFECTS ON USERS. QUOTES FROM USERS ARE INCLUDED TO GIVE EVIDENCE OF GENERAL OUTLOOK ON LIFE AS WELL AS THE EXPERIENCED EFFECTS OF DRUG USE. DRUG USERS ARE NOT LABELED AS TO PERSONALITY TYPE OR EMOTIONAL STABILITY SINCE EVIDENCE POINTS TOWARD DRUG USE ACROSS SOCIOECONOMIC, INTELLECTUAL, AND EMOTIONAL SPECTRUMS. THE EFFECTS OF DRUG USE ARE SAID TO VARY ACCORDING TO THE INDIVIDUAL USER AND THE CIRCUMSTANCES IN WHICH THE DRUG IS TAKEN, THUS PRECLUDING ANY ABSOLUTE INDICTMENTS OF THE DESTRUCTIVE EFFECTS OF THE NON-NARCOTIC DRUGS. THE STATE TO STATE AND COURT TO COURT VARIANCES IN DRUG LAWS, ENFORCEMENT, AND ADJUDICATION ARE DISCUSSED, POINTING UP THE CONFUSIONS IN KNOWLEDGE AND AMBIGUITIES IN ATTITUDES WHERE DRUGS ARE CONCERNED. THE FINAL CHAPTER LISTS THE MARIJUANA LAWS AND VIOLATION PENALTIES IN ALL STATES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
