THIS REPORT DESCRIBES AN EFFORT TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF BURGLARY AND ROBBERY IN DES MOINES, IA.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM SOUGHT TO DECREASE THE NUMBER OF BURGLARIES AND ROBBERIES BY 8-18 PERCENT. IT ALSO AIMED TO INCREASE THE CLEARANCE RATE FOR THEM BY 3-8 PERCENT, AND TO INCREASE ARRESTS FOR THEM BY 3-5 PERCENT. MOST OF THESE OBJECTIVES WERE SUCCESSFUL. BURGLARY AND ROBBERY RATES WERE DECREASED BY A GREATER AMOUNT THAN ORIGINALLY PLANNED. THE STUDY FOUND THAT SUCH SHORT-TERM PROJECTS CAN BE SUCCESSFUL IF THE PROPER PREREQUISITES AND CONDITIONS ARE MET....BDS
