THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE ADVANTAGES OF USING AN ELECTRIC ACCOUNTING MACHINE FOR RECORDS MANAGEMENT IN SMALL POLICE DEPARTMENTS (15 TO 75 EMPLOYEES SERVING 10,000 TO 50,000 PEOPLE).
Abstract
THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT COULD BE PURCHASED NEW FOR ABOUT 30,000 DOLLARS OR RENTED FOR 6,000 DOLLARS A YEAR. IT CONSISTS OF A CARD PUNCHING MACHINE COUPLED WITH MANUAL FILING PROCEDURES. THE AUTHOR RECOMMENDS THIS SYSTEM FOR THOSE DEPARTMENTS THAT ARE HESITANT TO PURCHASE OR RENT COMPUTERS, BUT WHO WISH TO REDUCE CLERICAL MANHOURS AND TO ACHIEVE GREATER UTILIZATION OF INFORMATION.
