IN ACCORDANCE WITH OTHER ATTEMPTS TO EXPLAIN CRIMINALITY AS A BIOLOGICAL PHENOMENON, THIS WEST GERMAN STUDY FOUND A HIGHER RATE OF CHROMOSOMAL ABERRATIONS IN THE CRIMINAL POPULATIONS THAN IN THE GENERAL POPULATION.
Abstract
TEN PERCENT OF THE OFFENDERS SHOWED CHROMOSOMAL ANOMALIES WHILE ONLY THREE PERCENT OF THE CONTROLS DID. THESE INCLUDED THE 'XYY' VARIANT, THE 'XXY' CONSTITUTION, MOSAICISM OF THE SEX CHROMOSOMES, AND THE 'GIANT Y CHROMOSOME'. INCLUDED ARE BRIEF CASE HISTORIES OF SOME SEXUAL OFFENDERS SHOWING CHROMOSOMAL CHANGES. ALSO PROVIDED ARE STATISTICAL CORRELATIONS BETWEEN TYPE OF OFFENSE AND TYPE OF CHROMOSOMAL ANOMALY.
