THEORY THAT PROSPERITY CAUSES A RISE, NOT A DECLINE, IN THE CRIME RATE.
Abstract
THE VARIOUS REASONS BEHIND THE POST WORLD WAR TWO INCREASE OF CRIME IN AFFLUENT SOCITIES ARE EXPLORED. CITED ARE INDUSTRIAL URBANIZATION, THE EXISTENCE OF MORE MATERIAL GOODS, THE RISE IN THE YOUTH POPULATION, THE DECLINE OF FAMILY INFLUENCE, CHANGING CRITERIA FOR REPORTING CRIME, AND GENERAL SPIRITUAL DECAY. THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THE NEED FOR A LARGER AND BETTER TRAINED POLICE FORCE TO DEAL WITH THE INCREASING CRIME RATE. A BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INCLUDED.
