There can be no question that moral education for prison inmates is as necessary a part of the educational program as reading or mathematics.
Abstract
The current interest in moral education has prompted the proliferation of programs and materials designed to promote moral reasoning and instill values in students. However, with the addition of moral education programs often come problems. Which materials are effective? How can content be added to already crowded curricula? How will such programs be funded? A recent study conducted within the Widham School System of the Texas Department of Corrections suggests that moral education might be accomplished through teaching style rather than a specific educational program. The responsibility of moral education would then be shifted from curriculum to staff development. (Author abstract)
