A DISCUSSION OF THE THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF OF COMPUTER DATA SECURITY IN MODERN COMPUTER AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS.
Abstract
CHAPTER I PRESENTS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE DATA SECURITY PROBLEM. CHAPTERS 2, 3, AND 4 COVER COMPUTER SYSTEMS, COMPUTER SOFTWARE, AND DATA MANAGEMENT AND DATA COMMUNICATIONS, RESPECTIVELY. THE TREATMENT IS 'CURRENT' AND REFLECTS THE 'STATE OF THE ART' IN COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY. CHAPTER 5 GIVES THE MAJOR THREATS TO DATA SECURITY AND A DESCRIPTION OF EFFECTIVE COUNTERMEASURES. CHAPTER 6 COVERS THEORETICAL AND APPLIED METHODS FOR IMPLEMENTING DATA SECURITY MEASURES IN A COMPUTER SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT. CHAPTER 7 DESCRIBES TYPICAL SYSTEMS IN WHICH DATA SECURITY PROVISIONS HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED. THIS CHAPTER SHOULD GIVE THE USER AN INTUITIVE NOTION OF WHAT CAN BE DONE TO MAINTAIN DATA SECURITY IN A PRACTICAL OPERATING ENVIRONMENT. CHAPTER 8 COVERS CRYPTOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUES THAT CAN BE USED TO SAFEGUARD DATA FILES AND DATA COMMUNICATIONS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
