THIS ACT WOULD PROVIDE FEDERAL AID TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND PUBLIC AND PRIVATE AGENCIES TO IMPROVE POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND ENCOURAGE CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT IN CRIME PREVENTION, VOLUNTEER SERVICE, AND OTHER PROGRAMS.
Abstract
TESTIMONY AND OTHER MATERIALS CONCERNING THE EXISTING DEGREE OF CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, THE EFFECT OF THIS INVOLVEMENT ON THE PREVENTION AND REDUCTION OF CRIME AT THE LOCAL LEVEL, AND THE MOST EFFECTIVE METHOD OF FEDERAL ASSISTANCE ARE PROVIDED. WITNESSES INCLUDED JOHN LINDSAY, MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY, DEPUTY U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL WILLIAM RUCKELSHAUS, MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, AND OFFICIALS OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION AND THE COMMUNITY RELATIONS SERVICE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.
