This handbook serves as a resource manual for workers who support victims of domestic violence.
Abstract
This handbook provides information, guidance, and support to enhance New Mexico's efforts to create strong meaningful partnerships between the domestic violence programs and agencies serving low income families experiencing domestic or sexual violence. This handbook provides information to the Income Support Division - Temporary Assistance to Needy Families Program (ISD-TANF) and New Mexico (NM) Works staff to aid in their understanding of violence, poverty, and the unique needs of women who have been battered. It provides the building blocks for strong collaborations between existing domestic violence programs and programs serving TANF eligible adults and their children. This handbook is divided into five parts: Part 1 is dedicated to understanding domestic violence and the many forms and issues it presents for the victims; Part 2 examines the family violence option (FVO) and the ISD-TANF/NM Works in New Mexico, including tribal TANF Programs; Part 3 provides information on safety and risk reduction for clients dealing with domestic violence as well as safety planning considerations for ISD-TANF/NM Workers; Part 4 examines beneficial tips and suggestions for collaboration efforts between ISD-TANF/NM Works and other existing domestic violence programs; Part 5 provides resources available to support the safety and economic stability of victims of domestic violence.
