SCHOOL DISCIPLINE AND JUVENILE JUSTICE ISSUES

Meeting of Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

Attorney General Eric Holder will chair the quarterly meeting of the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (Council) on Thursday, July 21, at 10:00 A.M. EDT. The Council's membership includes representatives from 12 federal agencies and nine practitioners.

Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will discuss steps to address school disciplinary policies that push students out of school and into the juvenile justice system. The agenda also will include (1) a segment on youth and family engagement; (2) recommendations from the issue teams on the Council's four priority issues (education and at-risk youth, tribal youth and juvenile justice, juvenile reentry and transition to adulthood, and racial/ethnic disparities in the juvenile justice system); and (3) agency announcements and updates.
