DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE OFFICIALS TO PARTICIPATE IN CELEBRATE SAFE COMMUNITIES EVENT

       WASHINGTON – Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs Mary Lou Leary will join officials from the District of Columbia (DC) metropolitan region in a Celebrate Safe Communities event highlighting efforts in and around DC to keep communities safe.

       The event coincides with October’s designation as Crime Prevention Month. The Celebrate Safe Communities initiative is designed to spotlight communities’ crime prevention efforts, enhance public awareness of vital crime prevention and safety messages, and recruit year-round support for ongoing prevention activities that help keep neighborhoods safe from crime. Remarks will be delivered at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro Station and McGruff the Crime Dog will be present. The event is free and open to the public.
