***MEDIA ADVISORY*** ATTORNEY GENERAL ALBERTO R. GONZALES AND OTHER DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE OFFICIALS TO PARTICIPATE IN EVENTS COMMEMORATING CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK

The Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs will open the 27th observance of National Crime Victims' Rights Week, April 22-28, 2007, with a national candlelight observance and awards ceremony. This year's theme "Victims' Rights: Every Victim. Every Time." embodies the work of the individuals, networks and partnerships to forge a national commitment to help victims rebuild their lives.

At 6:30 p.m. EDT Thursday, April 19, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty, Regina B. Schofield, Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs, Jeffrey E. Taylor, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, and John W. Gillis, Director of the Office for Victims of Crime will participate in the national observance and candlelight ceremony commemorating Crime Victims' Rights Week. The event will be held at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hall of Flags.

At 2:30 p.m. EDT Friday, April 20, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty, Regina B. Schofield, Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs, and John W. Gillis, Director of the Office for Victims of Crime, will participate in the National Crime Victims' Rights Week award ceremony honoring those who have made significant contributions to building awareness of, or providing services for victims of crime. The event will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
