National Mentoring Month
January is National Mentoring Month. The theme for this year’s commemoration is "Expand Your Universe. Mentor A Child." OJP is working to expand mentoring programs for at-risk youth across the country. In 2009, OJP awarded $177 million to support local, tribal, and national mentoring efforts aimed at preventing delinquency, gang involvement, and school failure. Grants also support training and technical assistance and programs to help juvenile offenders who are transitioning back into their communities.
OJP encourages you to become a mentor in your community. Also, join thousands of mentors and service organizations around the country in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on January 18.
