Investigating Vehicle Theft and FraudInvestigating Vehicle Theft and Fraud

Law enforcement agencies can now access all the information on vehicle titles and brand history included in the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) through the secure Regional Information Sharing System network. The enhancements allow law enforcement access to basic vehicle information, along with access to databases housing Mexican stolen vehicle data, the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s flood damaged vehicle data, and known cloned/counterfeit Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN). Currently, 300,000,000 VINs, and more than 40,000,000 brands are included in NMVTIS.

NMVTIS is a program of the Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and is operated by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators. For more information, visit the NMVTIS Web site.
